Hello Ranchlands School Community!

Models of Support

Supporting English Language Learners in the classroom can take several forms. Push-in involves in-class support while pull-out means students work within a small group on a targeted goal. The decision on which model to use is based on student need and learning outcomes. In either model, small group support for ELL’s is ideal as it provides a low student-teacher ratio in comfortable learning environment. This allows teachers to support student growth in a specific learning outcome and meet the varied needs of individual students. Some additional benefits of small-group support include:

-individualized and flexible learning – time can be allocated to where it is needed and lessons can be tailored to student needs
-inspire confidence – students are more willing to share ideas
-opportunity for feedback – teachers can respond to students immediately
-collaboration and team working skills – students build understanding and responsiveness to others
