Hello Ranchlands School Community!

Non-fiction Texts
Being able to understand non-fiction text (also called informational text) is critical for academic success, especially as students get older. These are some important non-fiction text features that students have been learning about:

·       Cover
·       Author
·       Table of contents
·       Glossary
·       Index
·       Appendices
·       Headings and subheadings
·       Vocabulary lists
·       Bold print (key vocabulary in context)
·       Captions
·       Side bars
·       Maps
·       Graphs (Circle, pie, bar, picto-gram, etc.
·       Pictures/Photographs
Knowing about these text features helps students to navigate and understand factual information.
