Hello Ranchlands School Community!

Grade 6 students will be preparing for exams in May and June. The written part of the English Language Arts PAT exam will be held on Wednesday, May 8. The remainder of the PAT exams will be held in June. The schedule can be found on the school calendar.

Today students in the TSN - Study Skills/Exam Prep Group learned about some helpful ways to study and prepare for exams.

Here are some helpful hints:

-figure out what kind of test you are having so you that you can be prepared (essay, news article, multiple choice, fill in the blank)
-schedule study sessions in advance so that you are not rushed and cramming
-have a spot to study with no distractions and all the materials you need
-take breaks when you study
-organize your notes by retyping or making an outline - the act of rewriting your notes will help you to remember
-review old tests for material that was covered
-form a study group with your peers
-test yourself using flashcards or make a game
-teach the material to someone else

It is important to be well rested and have a good night's sleep before your exam. Eat a healthy breakfast and bring snacks and water for the test.

Students were given this study plan to help them schedule study sessions:

You may find that you are feeling anxious or stressed before a test. This is natural and research has shown that a small amount of stress can help you to try your best. Just remember to take deep breaths, believe in yourself, try your best, and know that you have prepared!
