Hello Ranchlands School Community!

Dual Language Books
Family Literacy Night was a great deal of fun! Families had the opportunity to explore several different centres of literacy activities that can easily be done at home. Many families were excited to learn about our dual language books in over 30 languages! These books are available to be signed out in our Learning Commons.

The following are two on-line sites with hundreds of books that can be translated into many different languages:

TSN-PSA
Students in the Public Service Announcement TSN chose to film a short video on saving the environment. They used different techniques including head and master shots.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Valentine's Day is celebrated all over the world, including Canada.

Family Literacy Night
Family Literacy Night will be held this Thursday, February 20 from 6-7 pm. All families are invited to join us as we focus on Literacy at Home. Teachers will be sharing strategies and activities that families can do together to build listening, speaking, reading, and writing literacies. Here are some strategies to support your ELL child at home:
Patrol News
There will be a patrol meeting Thursday, February 20 at lunch in Rooms 23 and 24. All patrollers should bring their lunch for the meeting.

Teachers' Convention
All teachers attended the 2020 Teachers' Convention on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14. I had the pleasure of hearing Arlene Dickinson, from Dragons' Den, share her life experience and journey. She shared her emotional story of coming to Canada from South Africa as a child at the age of 6. It was very inspirational!

There is no school Monday, February 17 due to Family Day.

Hello Ranchlands School Community!

TSN-PSA
Students in TSN filmed a short, but powerful PSA on listening - with the intention not simply to respond, but to understand. They learned some cinematography terminology and techniques from Krasimira, our in school settlement worker from The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, including head space, long shot, medium shot, and basic scene.
